PAST EVENTS
·
Tons
of thanks to Sylvia Denys, Veronique Schreurs,
Maurice Johnston, Marty Mathews, and Tammi Swiantek for representing BOLD at the successful Low Vision
Expo on October 17.
·
Because
only three people were able to attend, Indoor Games scheduled for October 27
were re-scheduled and held at Penny Fleckenstein's home on November 1. (Four
BOLDSTERS and five guests enjoyed Penny's skilled hostessing.)
BOARD MEETINGS
·
Five
Board, two general members, and one guest attended November's meeting on
Wednesday the 4th.
·
December's
meeting will take place on Tuesday the 1st from 6:30 to 8:30pm at
NOVEMBER NEWS
·
On
Saturday the 21st, BOLD will offer twice the enjoyment with Indoor Games and
Ice Skating.
·
An
additional note about Indoor Games is that they will be canceled if less than
six people sign up.
FUNDRAISING FACTS
·
Having
gotten 107 pounds of fudge orders, with BOLD earning $3 a pound, means that we
made $321. Big Thank Yous to everyone who made this
fudge-o-rama successful, (see November BOLD Ventures
for acknowledgements).
·
An
upcoming One World Blue/Buy for Good Now Fundraiser is a party which Terri Winaught will host on Sunday, December 6 from 7:30 to
10:00pm in the Moorhead Tower Community Room. (Buy for Good Now is a One World
Blue-affiliated business through which Terri donates a portion of her sales to
BOLD.)
o
Reserve
your spot with Terri Winaught, 412-263-2022, no later
than 10:00pm on Thursday, December 3.
o
Product
info and the order form will be in Braille, Regular Print, and Large Print.
o
Regarding
the Gold Rush part of this fundraiser, feel free to phone Terri for a complete
list of items you can bring, and refer to November's newsletter. (Terri can also provide a list of items to be
shown at the party.)
·
A
final fundraising fact is that skiing is one of the most expensive events for
which BOLD fundraises. For example, BOLD
spent over $1,000 for the 2009 Ski Season.
The 2010 season will be free, however, for guides and vision-impaired
skiers, thanks to the generosity of Pat McCloskey and the Seven Springs
management.

Veronique Schreurs: 2269 Tilbury Ave.,
Pittsburgh, PA 15217, with your check or
money order made payable to Western PA BOLD.
·
Thank you for renewing your dues and staying in BOLD. (If sending a check for both the dues and the
Holiday party, please specify that on the check's memo or in an enclosed note.)
NOMINATIONS
·
With only Carol Platt having called to nominate
herself as Second Vice-President, the rest of the Board remains as
follows: Joyce Driben, President; Tammi
Swiantek, First Vice-President; Sylvia
Denys, Recording Secretary; Terri Winaught, Corresponding Secretary, Veronique
Schreurs, Treasurer; and Tracy O'Neill, Membership Chair.
DECORATIVE
DECEMBER
·
On Saturday, December 5, come celebrate the season
from 6:00 to 10:00pm at the Church of the Redeemer, in Squirrel Hill. (Refer to November's BOLD Ventures for the
reservation deadline and the information Terri Winaught needs.)
o
The caterer for the party will be the Tugboat
Restaurant, with the menu being: chicken marsala, green beans, rigatoni with
marinara sauce, meatballs with onions and peppers, rolls, butter, fruit salad,
tossed salad, tea and coffee.
o
This year's Holiday Party will cost $12 for adults and
$10 for children ten and under, these prices applying to both members and
guests.
o
This party will also include door prizes-which one
must be present to win-and a live auction, which one need not be present to
win. (At BOLD'S first live auction held
last year, we raised $265, which was 100 percent profit since the items were
donated.)
·
For those who enjoy skiing, there will be a Downhill
Ski Guide Clinic on Sunday, December 20. To reserve with Maggi Ostrowski by 9:00pm on
Tuesday the 15, call 412-766-0312. Except
for the guide clinic, there will be a limit of two guides per blind- or
vision-impaired skier.
LOOKING
AHEAD
·
On Tuesday, January 12, 2010, there will be a group
conference call to get member feedback on BOLD-related issues. January's topic will be BOLD'S newsletter,
with particular emphasis on what you like about the newsletter; what parts you
don't read because they don't interest you, and what suggestions you have for
making BOLD Ventures better. To be part
of this phone conference, phone 218-844-3377. When prompted for a password, enter 31782. (If you do not have unlimited long distance,
this call could get expensive, and thank you in advance for your valued input.)
BOLD BITS
·
Get Well Wishes to Debbie Troutman who is recovering
from a fall and other problems.
·
To correct a mistake in November's newsletter, there
will be no meal in November at the Pittsburgh Lutheran Center for the Blind. There will be a meal and Christmas Party,
however, on Saturday, December 5 at the Center.
To learn more about the activities that are part of monthly meals, see
November's BOLD Ventures or call 412-682-1800.
·
Happy Birthday to Rich Lynch, Kimberly Morrissey,
Milette Reid, Debbie Troutman and anyone else with a December birthday.
·
Congratulations!! to Jim Wiseman, who hit 22 baskets
at Kon-o-Kwee, Jerry Penfield, who hit 41 baskets, and this Editor, who hit 42 baskets.
Regarding those basketball achievements,
special recognition goes to Jerry Penfield, given his combination of blindness
and other special needs.

completed guide dog training.
